Arson attack on south Costa Blanca urbanisation homes ‘may have been by ex-partner’
Monday, November 4, 2013
NUMBER one suspect in an arson attack on two Orihuela Costa villas has fled the area and is wanted by the police.
The accused – whose nationality has not been revealed – is in the process of separating from his partner and is believed to have set fire to the door of one house on the urbanisation La Ceñuela, which is split between Orihuela Costa and Torrevieja (Alicante) at around 03.15hrs on Thursday.
Police say the property belongs to the boyfriend of his soon-to-be-ex partner.
Only the door was damaged, but all four tyres on each of the two cars parked outside – those of the former partner and new boyfriend – were punctured.
Later, at around 04.00hrs, a house on the urbanisation San Luis in Torrevieja went up in flames, destroying most of the building.
The property was where the accused and his former partner lived together.
Initial investigations suggested the suspect may have tried to commit suicide by setting the house on fire, but in the end decided to escape.
Police believe it will be a matter of hours or, at most days, before an arrest is made, but the whereabouts of the man in question are unknown as he left the area very suddenly after the two fires.
